comparative literature

i plan on majoring in french and something else like english, international studies or comp lit

however i've been told by my eng lit major eng teacher that that major leads to either law school or being a professor
lately i've been turned off to law school, but i'm still rele interested as long as i can help people, make good money, and do lots of public speaking at the same time (where that is i don't know)
do you have any experience with the careers this major could lead to and if it has any practicality whatsoever (my parents won't pay for it otherwise)
thanks

with a degree in English lit. you could go into publishing.

Wow, that's bunk. Going to college isn't about getting a job, it's about challenging yourself intellectually and getting a good education.

i kind of agree, but coming from a middleclass background i can see the wroth of money and having a job. It's not god, but it's not paper either.
Also having a degree that will help you get a job right out of undergrad helps you have something to fall back on if you are no longer interested in grad school or it is unfeasiable at the time.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of publishing. However is that field difficult to get into?

There are many different things one can do with an English degree. Just search the internet for lists of "what can you do with a degree in English" and the other fields that interest you. A lot more is available than law or grad school. You can learn a lot more about jobs and careers while in college through your career center.
