Which is harder to get into, Wake Forest or BC?

Originally I though BC, but when you compare gpa, SAT, and size...

BC: 3.80, 1361 combined SAT 1600, 2041 Single SAT 2400, 2052 Combined SAT 2400,
enrollment 9,860

Wake: 3.85, 1386 combined SAT 1600, 2052 Single SAT 2400, 2081 Combined SAT 2400,
enrollment 4,412

They're both great schools, udoubtably. But is this a recent change? I hadn't heard about Wake until fairly recently, and I always thought BC was a more selective school

They’re both great schools; however, your question asks:

“Which is harder to get into, Wake Forest or BC?”

Based STRICTLY on acceptance rate (which is all you really need to answer your question), Wake accepted 38.4% of its applicants in 2008 and BC accepted 26.2%. (BC’s acceptance rate has decreased fairly significantly over the past two years. I’m uncertain about Wake’s.) If you want to argue which of the two is the “better” school, that’s a completely different question. They both offer a solid academic foundation coupled with outstanding social opportunities. It simply depends on what you want: Wake = Southern, small, predominant Greek culture, town setting, emphasis on sports and strong school spirit. BC = Northern, medium-large, Jesuit, no Greek system, larger urban setting, emphasis on sports and strong school spirit.

But basing your selectivity ranking purely on percentage of applicants accepted may not be entirely accurate – Wake strikes me as a lesser-known, hidden gem sort of school, whereas BC’s lower rate of admittance may have more to do with its larger number of applicants or possibly more qualified pool? BC is more likely to be, say, a safety school for very qualified Ivy candidates, while Wake applicants – and again, this is just my perception – probably overlap more with Duke or Vanderbilt candidates.

I’d say they’re probably about equally selective, all things considered. I tend to see Wake as a slightly better school, but it may also be because I used to live in the Northeast and I see BC as familiar and Wake as somewhat of an enigma. I think you’ve picked out two pretty similar schools here, with a few differences such as their locations and religious affiliations. If this is a means of determining your college list, I’d say to you and anyone else in a similar position, apply to both! :)
