How do GWU and American compare in terms of academics, selectivity, student life, and finanical aid?

thanks:)

GWU has a better academic reputation. Both are very strong in IR, but GW's has better academic programs as a whole. GW is more selective. GW's average SAT scores fluctuate in the higher 1200s and lower 1300s. AU's SAT's are in the lower 1200s. GW's acceptance rate is 39% and I AU accepts just over half of its applicants. Many argue that AU has more of a campus than GW, but honestly the campus architecture is kind of ugly and it's not located in the greatest area in the world. GW students are much closer to downtown DC.

where do you think I have a better chance?

I hear GW's tuition is crrrrrrazy.

I think you'll get into both, easy! goodluck!

You're looking at a full ride at AU and a presidential scholarship to GW.

actually au's average sat is 1285, 1449 for honors program.

i agree that gw has a better rep academically, but not by much and neither gw or american compare to gtown so often times they are lumped together.

i think if you get into the honors program at au then it is a way better option than gw. tuition is lower and the honors program is very competitive so you would be more than challenged (unless of course you are ivy material)

also, au is on embassy row, not in anacostia or some other rough neighborhood. i agree that gws location is better but au is definitely in one of the nicer parts of dc.
