Comparing the top LACs' "vibes"?

I agree, which schools are furthest away from the quirky/hippie/artsy types?

Holy Cross-strong academics well known for pre-med, Division1 sports, nice campus(1 hour from Boston), top alumni giving rate>50%. Bucknell and Colgate are similar to HC but in more rural locations. ALL are members of the highly regarded Patriot League.

"hinder, the majority of the LAC are in the East, which is where the majority of the preps schools are based, hence the “preppy” comments.

Williams is probably considered among the most Jock-y LAC’s… "

I see. Thanks. xD

Hmmm . . . lots of recurring words here. My stereotypes:

Outdoorsy: Williams, Middlebury, Bard, Colorado College

Artsy: Vassar, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Skidmore, Bard, Reed; Williams, just a bit

Jock-y: Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin

Intellectual: Swarthmore, Reed, Carleton, Grinnell, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Smith, Wesleyan, Amherst, Pomona

Preppy: Colgate, Hamilton, Trinity, Bates, Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Davidson, Washington & Lee

Pre-professional: Wellesley, Amherst, Williams, Claremont-McKenna (and all others, to some extent)

Hippie-ish: Reed, Bard, Wesleyan, Pitzer

Activist: Wesleyan, Oberlin, Macalester, Reed

Quirky: Swarthmore, Vassar, Haverford, Grinnell, Carleton, Pomona, Wesleyan

Clean-cut (generally neither artsy, quirky/intellectual, nor hippie-ish): Amherst, Wellesley, Bowdoin, Colgate, Hamilton, Bates, Claremont-McKenna, Davidson, Washington & Lee

Then you can draw from these categories to get a profile of the school, e.g.:
Williams: outdoorsy, jock-y, preppy, pre-professional, and just a bit artsy
Wesleyan: activist, intellectual, artsy, quirky, hippie-ish
and so on.

hey, thanks Keilexandra and bclintonk for taking the time to do such detailed summaries! They’re great! xD

This has to be one of the funniest/ironically accurate forums haha can you also do Trinity College and Sewanee: University of the South???

Fiske Guide to Colleges usually gets it right. On Washington and Lee, they said, “the last bastion of the southern gentleman who can hold his liquor and is damn proud of it…”

Trinity - fancied itself as the “un-Wesleyan” – until the tea party started; probably the most attractive campus in NESCAC.

University of the South - the only LAC whose nickname (“Sewanee”) is better known than its real name.

…tea party? o_O

what does that uncle in the attic comment mean in this context?

Think johnwesley nailed every one of them!
