Recently I was accepted to UNCW for their Physics and Physical Oceanography program (undergraduate) when i visited the campus and the surrounding area over the past summer i loved it, however I really dont know much more about the program than what the webpages and informational booklets have told me. Furthermore, I was wondering if anyone knew how UNCW's physics and physical oceanography program stood up against URI's program which is another school which I applied to, but I have not heard back from them yet. I would be thankful for anyone's personal experience at UNCW or even URI for that matter for this program. ( I suspect it's not a large major) Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I briefly considered URI for Marine Biology, and I feel as though the physical oceanography is somewhat of a similar field. URI I imagine has solid programs in all 3, but I know UNCW has fantastic programs with all the sciences dealing with the ocean, thanks to their multi-million facility they have recently put in. Here’s the link:
[Center for Marine Science: UNCW](Center For Marine Science | UNCW)
Again, it is focused on marine biology, but I feel as though some of the fields overlap.

@baubble30 Are you attending UNCW, and if so what have you liked (and disliked) about the marine program and have you completed any research or had an chances to conduct research at any point while a student? Also thank you for the link.

No, I am an high school applying to schools. I’ve applied to UNCW and have been accepted (super excited!). I am not sure on specifics concerning research, but if you do a little digging on the websites you can find email/contact info for department chair who would gladly share these things with you.

My dad went to URI and really liked it. It was a long time ago, but he had great friends and rather than going to the dorms, he and a bunch of guys rented a beach house together and had a blast! He was an engineering major, so I can’t speak to the value of the program you’re specifically interested in, but URI can be a lot of fun from what I hear.

Yea, there is definitely still a lot left to consider.
