Comparing UOP to public schools.

Hello everybody,

I am currently in community college. I’m majoring in mechanical/aerospace engineering and was wondering what everyone’s input was concerning the University of the Pacific vs public schools like San Jose State and UC Davis. The official rankings seem to say that UOP’s engineering is far less superior to the mentioned public schools. However UOP is a private (and expensive) school, so does this make any sense or hold any real value? SJSU is ranked I believe #22 for engineering and #2 in the nation for electrical eng.

In simple terms, Is it possible for a public school (like those mentioned) to have a better education than say an expensive private university like UOP? Not factoring in the location or the local job opportunities.

Just because a school is a private school it isn’t automagically better than a public school.

UOP is not a better school than SJSU or UCDavis. It’s not a bad school, but I always got the impression it’s where rich mediocre students go. At least that’s all the people I know that went there.

UOP has good Pharmacy and Dental programs, but their Engineering programs (although ABET accredited) are not that well known or considered “superior” to SJSU and UCD. As stated above by @chansu99: An expensive private school is not always considered a better school choice.
