I am going to community college first and I am planning to transfer afterwards. I am considering applying to UC’s and CSU’s, but I have a few questions about CSU’s in particular:
- The CSU’s I am looking into are Cal Poly SLO, SDSU, CSULB, Fullerton and maybe Pomona. How would you rank these? Which are most well known outside of the state?
- Which has a better business or economics program(undergrad)
- Are any of these comparable to UC’s?
- Last thing- I’m a bit skeptical about Pomona and Fullerton because the acceptance rates are significantly higher than the other schools that I mentioned. Is this important or something that I should consider?
In order of selectivity and name recognition: SLO>SDSU>CSULB>CSUF>CPP
SLO and SDSU will have the higher ranking in Business programs but in regards to Econ, the UC’s will have that distinction since only a few UC’s have true business majors. SLO and SDSU are often on par with the UCR/UCSC and even UCI but with rankings everything is subjective. CSUF has an excellent business program, more so than CPP but acceptance rates for schools are based on their overall acceptance and not always broken out by major. It really depends where your focus will be in a Business major.
My older son’s current roommate is a Managerial Econ major at UCD. He found this major did not have the business emphasis he was interested in pursuing so you he had decided to transfer next year to Santa Clara for business. You need to evaluate each progam and see if it meets your interest and needs. Some CSU’s will meet your needs and some will not. This also can be said for the UC’s.
Good Luck.
The order you list the schools is how I would ranks them for business. SLO and SDSU are VERY selective for out of area transfers. (I know transfer students accepted to UCLA and UCSB but turned down by SLO). All of them are well respected. If you can expand your search to N Cal, I’d add Chico and SJSU as credible options.
Not sure what you mean by skeptical about CSUF and CP Pomona.
