<p>Thoughts on Newhouse vs. UMaryland vs. Penn State?........seeking info comparing programs, general school atmosphere, internships, etc.</p>
<p>same! so i’m gonna give this a bump! I’m choosing between the same schools, and same major. I eliminated penn state, they are not generous with scholarships or aid to oos students and they are in the middle of nowhere. Right now im between umd(Merill) or cuse(newhouse).</p>
<p>I was accepted to all three for journalism and chose Maryland. While I think Newhouse is more highly regarded than Merrill, I knew Merrill was a terrific Journalism school in its own right. I liked Maryland and Syracuse’s campuses better than Penn State, which also seemed just a little too big for me. Maryland was cheaper than Syracuse, even with a Syracuse grant, so that factored in for me too. Location also contributed, since Maryland is so close to Washington D.C., which has great internship opportunities (especially for journalism). And the weather is obviously much nicer in Maryland compared to the cold and frequent snow in upstate New York, so that was a small factor. Overall, I just fell in love with Maryland when I visited the second time, and the choice became easy for me. I’m very happy with the university and journalism school.</p>
