Competency Requirements?

ASU has some competency requirements. I don't think I completely understand their policy.

SAT SCORES

Critical Reading - 500
Math - 540
Writing - 460

1040/1600
1500/2400

I’m in the same boat as you haha. Im confused too.

Whats your GPA?

GPA- 2.3, but I’m still in the top 50% of my class

Your transcript looks so similar to mine. I have a 2.3 too if I count my senior classes but right now I think its a 1.9

Do you know if ASU needs an essay?

You don’t need an essay, nor letters of recommendations.

However, I went ahead and got 6 letters of recommendations, anyways. It could only help my chances.

I just applied yesterday and sent all my SAT scores (By accident instead of sending the best one) then I sent my ACT scores in.

I have a 1.9 right now but my finals are on the 25th of jan. Do you think I can just wait until my gpa transcript gets updated to send that to them?

LOL. Are you me?

That’s what I’m doing. I’m waiting till Feb. 2, for the semester to end. When the semester ends, my GPA will be recalculated, resulting in me having a higher GPA on my transcript.

Of course you should wait. Deadline isn’t till March 1st, anyways.

Haha thats why this post really caught my eye because I wanna go there too and your transcript looks like mine.

I still don’t know if I qualify for admission or not.

…is this serious?

Why wouldn’t it be?

haha sorry, I just find it hard to believe that you did poorly in so many classes and are still at the top half of your class! But good for you, if its true.

I’m trying to look through their website to see if you’re qualified- I’ll post again in a minute.

English is fine- you took 4 years. If you hadn’t taken 4 years, your SAT score would be too low.
Math is fine- you took the 4 courses necessary and scored the minimum you would’ve needed had you not taken 4 years.
You’re science lab classes are fine, you took the neccessary 3.
History is good to go.
Fine arts is fine [creative crafts= fine arts, right?]
Language is good too.

You just have to make sure you have an average of at least a “D” in each area of study.

I attend a bad, gang-ridden high school in an urban crime-filled city. The graduation rank is among the lowest in New Jersey. The dropout rank is among the highest in New Jersey.

The average SAT score taken by seniors at my school last year was a 1200/2400 (400 per section).
