how do yall know all of these statistics and stuff. at my school its totally different. there are only about 6 11ers that i know might be applying to college. the 12ers are worse. and the 13ers?! LMAO. the teachers cant even get them to stop running up and down the hallway yelling swear words.

lol, even if it peaks at '13, and drops after, the first 2-3 years after that peak will still be higher than now, logically.

My younger brother is screwed then. He's an '14-er.

I'd have to say despite all the hits and heartaches I got through this year's admissions process, I know a select few who got into their reaches (I really do mean reaches for these some). So I guess this year wasn't all too horrendous (even if it was for me). But gah, can't believe it'll only keep getting worse.

There is no mystery, this has been written about LOTS lately. My parents keep sending me stories from newspapers all over. The point is that the ivies and top LACs used to be fed from just a relatively small number of schools. Now they are attracting applicants from every high school in America and all over the world. When the Asians start to better accept LACs they'll be impossible too!!! But when the overall number of students goes down, the lower tier schools will have to fight for their students. That's why they're all building big gyms and great dorms. My safeties had much better dorms than any reach school I applied to!!!

thesiren72102 : Yeah I plan on doing the same things, starting apps early I mean. Wouldn't it be just awesome if we could like know right now which places are gonna accept/reject us. It would remove the whole anxiety factor...it would be great.

megaman123: I know...I just want to know already, so that it will save some worrying and stressing. Atleast two (possibly three) of the schools on my list will notify me before April, I still want to know badly. I'm the type of person who likes to read the ending before reading the story...it just adds to the excitement for me.

^I'm the same way.... I can't wait until I can start apps, I just feel I want to get them out of the way. I'm probably applying to like 14 schools ( mostly because I'm not taking mine of the list and my mom keeps adding schools)... anyway if I don't get into any place that I really like (a friend of mine got rejected from all of his schools, safeties included. That got me sort of paranoid.) its off to germany for me...a year to practice german and do tons of community service and reapply for 2012.

^I know that I will get in somewhere (Texas top 10% rule), but I've been on CC for three years (I was lurker for a year), and the slaughtering just seems to get worse and worse every year.

^Yeah, at least you've got that. I've got nothing...and I'm screwed when it comes to the general admissions process `cause I'm an international. Hopefully I'll get in somewhere...it would be a real blow to my ego if I got rejected from all of my schools ( considering that my GC has taken up the job of raising my ego each time I talk with him...the guy freakin loves me lol).....yeah...well....we'll se what happens, hopefully I'll get to see some of you guys next year at X university.

^What country are you from? I hope that you don't rejected from all your schools, but you are applying to 14 schools, so the statistical odds are in your favor of getting into atleast one of them. I've heard essays are a big factor, so write some great ones. I hope to see you next year at X university, too.

I honestly believe that there will be a news story about some kid going around killing other applicants to his top ivy league college to increase his chances of getting in.
Also....
I wish people would go to cheaper schools, to give all these ridiculously expensive schools a run for their money (price of tuition would drop, scholarships would increase,etc...).

oh god. i'm 2012 year haha. sophomore right now right? i hear it's the 'baby boom' year. many people in one year. same spots for college. >_>"...........

thesiren72102: I'm from costa rica. At least I hope that since not a lot of people from CR apply to US schools that'll help me at least in the international applicant pile.

The thing is populations are only increasing at .5-1.5%, but apps are increasing 5-15% at the top schools. So there is much more to it than simple population trends. My bet is with the proliferation of the internet, perfect information/ ease of applying is spreading so people who previously wouldn't have applied are applying. Add the fact that people are applying to more schools + the population factor and you have the perfect storm.

thesiren72102: hahah yeah that was me. Yep, to bad it was deleted...it was a great idea.

Maybe we should start a masterlist of schools that already have their 2007 apps online...anyone wanna start? ( sorry guys, I'm just way to lazy to start it myself, but I promise I'll add to it. hehe)
