Hi, I’ve been looking into UFC and I really like it, I have just a few questions I was wondering if anyone on here could help me with…

First, I saw in another thread about 8 girls and 8 boys being accepted, does anyone have details on the level of competition to be accepted to the program? I have a lot of theatre experience, but I’m very nervous about getting accepted to programs…

Also, I am from New York, and I know that UCF itself takes mostly in-state kids (something like 93%), does anyone know how that holds up in the MT department? Do they prefer Florida residents?

Thanks!

Also one more thing, does anyone know if UCF bumps kids after freshman year? Do you have to reaudition to contiune with the program? That is one of my biggest concerns in this whole college-search thing, I was recently completely scared out of UArizona when I found out how many kids are not allowed to continue MT as a sophmore...

CaraJean, as to how competitive UCF is...As a Florida resident we have a program that gives academic scholarship money to Florida students staying in state and attending a State University. We recieve 75% percent of TUITION with a minimum benchmark of 970 on the SAT's or equivalent on the ACT. At 1270 SAT or 28 ACT (superscored for both) you get 100% tuition paid. This makes staying in state SO attractive that almost every Florida MT student will apply to FSU and UCF. UCF is much newer than FSU and its conservatory style program is very new compared to some of the other schools. Just recently (the past few years) it has shrunk its program to be very small and selective. Last year there were 8 girls and 8 boys and 2 alternates (2 students I know of here in South Florida got in as alternates.) I know of MANY kids who were accepted into UArts, Hartt, Point Park, NYU Tisch Cap21...who did not get in to UCF. I don't think they are partial to in-state students in the BFA-MT program. but with numbers that small it is VERY competitive.
As for a "cut" program, I don't think they have an official cut program but I believe, like many other schools, you need to stay focused and work hard to remain in the program or they will redirect you to a BA/Theater.
