Competition?

i know there are alot of kids but how good do i acutally have to be?
…do you guys know exactly what they are looking for??? like do they put alot of emphasis on dance or singing or what?..

when I auditioned at CCM, they told us that you have to be a singer. No questions asked. They feel that you can be an exeptional singer and actor, or singer and dancer, and they’ll teach you the other area if need be, but you have to come into their program with a fantastic voice. being a good dancer and actor with a so-so voice isnt enough. If I’m not mistaken, they auditioned about 800 kids for their program this year. competition is tough, they accept 25-30ish if I’m not mistaken to yeild a class of 20ish.

hey did ya get in???

I was in deferral, which means they kept me under consideration for a spot in the program until they finally decided if they wanted me or not. I was rejected after NYC Unifieds, because I’m sure they saw a bunch of talented kids there! But I’m off to Penn State MT in the fall so all is good

Stay focused and work as hard as you can. Audition season is a tough one to get through. Make sure you keep your material fresh, keep your health and morale up, and never get discouraged. All things work out in the end, always remember that. One way or another, a door will open up that will be the right path for you.

thxxxx have fun at penn! my fellow actor! see ya on broadway!!! =)

thank you! are you in an mt program anywhere msbway?

nope…im just 15 a sophmore sry…haha i am just trying to see what im up against for college auditions so i can start training as soo as possible! and btw i am courtneyxcoral but i made a new account because the courtneyxcoral one was connected to my old email and i didnt feel like changing it lol so i just made a new one =) hey do you have any suggestions on how i should train rite now? i am in musical theatre but our teacher only really does acting with us…so i am a great actor! but i have no dance training and i am not that great a singer but i can keep definently keep a tune and …I AM ALTO! =( do you think i will probably be good enough if i start training in late august???

As I said, CCM looks for strong singers. Find a reputable voice coach in your area (one with classical and musical theatre knowledge would be ideal) and begin training. Being an alto is fine, I know at these auditions I saw many sopranos and few altos, which may be a plus. That doesnt mean you shouldnt work your higher register though, MT performers must be as versitile as possible.

The CCM dance call only consisted of a jazz routine, so find a dance school in your area with a good reputation and start to take jazz classes. If you have time to take ballet, do that as well. Just as classical singing is the basis of all singing, ballet is the basis of all dancing.

You have about two and a half years. Its a very short time to prepare since you say you’ve had no dance or vocal training (but you may have lots of natural talent that I dont know about!) so you’ll need to work work work. Stay focused and always willing to learn. Competition is tough at any college MT program, especially CCM’s seeing how many they audition, then eventually accept. Just work has hard as you can, and follow those dreams.

thx sooo much! i am gonna get rite on that when school starts!!! thx for the advice!!! =)
