I was wondering if there is any way to find out how competitive one's district is. I live in Ohio and I know that there are a lot of smart kids in my school but none of them want to go to West point. Is there any way to find out?

Usually how many people a district sends to the academies each year is a pretty good indication. The more that are sent (ie accept/recieve appointments), the more competitive the district.

Your local area of contact would probably know.

How would I find out how many from my district went?

Liason Officer?

local parents club. they are usually the best. my blue & gold for USNA was able to tell me also.

How do I get in touch with the local parents club

contact your admissions liason officer and ask them. or search it online.
West point parents club + state. i know USNA parents club has a website for like every state.

my ALO for west point also served on the board that interviews candidates for nominations.

Another way that may be able to help a bit would be to go to www.westpointcadets.org, and there they have a cadet map. See how many on there are from your area. Keep in mind that the website is not 100% accurate and will only have an estimate.

hey everyone, i'm a longtime reader, first-time poster. Barce, I am from Ohio too, 14th district, where are you?

yeah i checked out that website before. the parents club here (or whoever does it) obviously arent that great. it seems they left out 4 people that have gone from my school in the past few years. so its not too accurate.

yeah, the first guy i looked for wasnt on there, but the other 2 were.

I am also in the 14th district what school do you go to? Are you applying to WP?

Barce,
Yea, I am a senior this year, as of the end up this week, my app will be finished.
The competiveness of our district changes year to year I'd say, but if you got into SLS I doubt you'll have any trouble getting a nomination. goodluck to you with everything next year, and congrats on getting into SLS, i really wish i'd gone last year, but my sister was getting married in mid-June, so there was no way i could have gone. Also, if i get in, i will be more than happy to talk to you next year when i'm home and answer any questions you have.

Thanks lco6, Best of Luck to you as well. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be ordering me around and telling me what to do. Thanks for the help
