You are of course a strong candidate, and you seem to know it already. However your low math SAT scores might hurt you a little bit.

But I would say you have 85%. A very strong candidate indeed. :)
Go for Stern. You don't want to stuck in CAS. Once you get into CAS, it is very hard to transfer out to Stern.

Shoot it out there, and see what happens.

miscgrl - I don't know why kjayson7 is so critical. Your SAT scores are high compared to typical Stern students. Your GPA is also above average. I'm sure you would get in.

ya really, why arent u applying to ivies

go for stern
your numbers are great and ecs are fine

Yeah, my cousin got into Stern RD with 1410 SAT. (Asian male)

thanks :D

i didnt really have any perspective on this b/c i dont know anyone at Stern, so i really appreciate the encouragement.

out of curiousity, how does Wharton compare and how much harder is it to get in? (obviously at least a bit b/c its ivy, right?)

thanks again!

Wharton is ranked #1 (by U.S. News) and I think you have a great shot there. If you look at the Wharton board, you'll see that some people are trying to transfer from Stern to Wharton.

It doesn't really matter which one you go for, if you don't get into one of them, you are in all certainty would not have got into the other.

It just depends what you want to study...business=stern, liberal arts=cas.

Good luck

-NYU class of '00

jwblue, everyone else I have read in the known world they say Sterns is way harder than CAS to get into, with over 100 point SAT difference, why do you think the contrary.

I know for a fact the 2 schools have similar stats. I've created spreadsheets on NYU SAT distributions.

Example, when I worked in the admissions office, in '98 the avg. SAT score for all NYU frosh was a 1320, CAS was 1360, and Stern was 1370...a 10 point difference, which is basicallly nothing when you consider CAS is 3X as large as Stern. Yes, I know things have changed since '98 (the avg. SAT score for NYU frosh this year was 1353). ..but as a general rule, CAS and Stern have scores that range from 40-60 points higher than the rest of NYU. School of ED, GSP, and Social Work...are generally lower than the average, GSP is much lower. Tisch and Gallatin tend to fall in the middle, with Tisch having students with amazing scores, or very talented people with low scores.

I don't know where you got this 100 pt figure from, I'd love to see something official from the school, but everything I know indicates that its not true.

i got into stern last year RD with a 1400/3.8 unweighted.

extracurriculars are a plus but i don't think they matter as much at a big school like NYU. they're going to look at your numbers first and you have excellent numbers.
