I just got my ACT scores today, and I got a 32. I know that this is a fairly competitive score (I am not looking at ivy leagues) and that it opens a lot of doors for scholarship opportunities. My other stats are as follows:

I only listed my reach schools. The reason I am putting this in the ACT forum instead of the “chance me” section is because I am trying to decide if I need to take the ACT again. I didn’t study/get a tudor–all I did to prepare was take a few practice tests and look at what I missed. I really think that I could bring my reading up to 35/36 because I did really well on the reading section of the SAT. However my ACT is still more competitive because I got a 33 in Math whereas on the SAT I got a 2100 but my math score was only a 650. Also, I really don’t have time to take it in October because I have already made arrangements to spend the night at 2 schools the weekend of the 25th. Also, I am applying EA to a few schools so I can’t wait until December. Basically, I really HATE standardized tests (even though I’ve only taken 2 lol), and I want to be done with all of this. Sorry, this is so long-winded, but I really want opinions as to if my ACT is good enough for these schools. I have good extra curriculars and leadership so that is not a problem. Also, writing is one of my main strengths so my essays are rockin’.

I am from the South, so I think that this might help with a few of my northern/midwestern schools.

Ummm… Your scores are totally fine for these schools. I would even say they would do pretty well to get you into the “considerable” list for ivy’s. I dont understand why people think Ivy leagues are so so competitive with their scores. Their Averages run at 30-32 so 50% of their accepted applicants have less than than. That’s A LOT! And anyways, scores only open the window to get you considered for their schools. They are in no way that big of a deal in my opinion. Especially if you have something other than perfectly high scores to offer.

ok, thanks! because I feel ok about my scores, but I just want to be reassured that I am more than a stupid ACT score and that colleges will be able to realize that!

would you consider these “reach” schools for me? because my mom is making me apply to our state school, Hendrix, Earlham, Dickinson, and several other less competitive schools because she thinks that my year is so competitive! I wish she believed in me more…lol…

I am also sending in the arts supplement to the commom app (I have been playing violin for 14 years) but I don’t know if that helps…

Oh definitely! If they chose students with the highest scores on some standardized test then trust me they would have more students than they can admit. So good job! You’re on the right track.

thanks for responding jckund. I hope you get your scores soon! I know how agonizing it was to wait those extra two days…I can’t even imagine what it feels like at this point. I just want to kick myself about my reading score because I had such a high reading score on the SAT, but the time limit on the ACT really got me…I know I could get at least 33 or 34, but I just don’t have time to take it again…

Check out the following thread: “Can we start an official list of colleges, which superscore the ACT?” Wash U, Kenyon, UNC are listed as schools , amongst others, that superscore the ACT. I would call schools to confirm this. If scholarships are of interest to you, I would re-take test and send both scores if you improve, otherwise send higher comp.

well I have a 28 ACT and am hoping to get into Davidson. So I would say if your test scores aren’t sufficient, then I have no chance. However, the good news is that Davidson considers test scores of the least importance in their selection process.
