Will Brown compete with an financial aid/scholarship offer(s) from other schools?

It depends on the school and the family’s circumstances.

Brown will not meet merit aid offers. Based on how I understand the school’s financial aid philosophy, it is more likely to match packages for families whose income is under $100,000.

It doesn’t hurt to try.

It would probably have to be a peer school. That is, in addition to qualifying for need-based aid.

My daughter is in her sophmore year at Brown, having top honors when she applied, ranked # 10 in a class of 800, all APs, 100’s of volunteer hours, etc etc. She was one of only 13 accepted in a dual program, so she is attending 2 universities at the same time. BUT: With my income under 50,000, they “graciously” gave her $1.500 scholarship. My understanding is, they expect their student body to be able to meet the tuition responsibilities, to be affluent enough. Their student services is almost non-existent as well.
Lots of good things at Brown, but those two are not.

houstonmom, I am very puzzled by your comment. Is that a $1,500/year grant? That just doesn’t seem possible. According to Brown’s website:

Unless you have a lot of assets or there is a noncustodial parent in the picture, I simply don’t understand how a parent who earns less than $50,000 can be asked to pay $50,000+/year. If your income is $50,000/year and you have less than $100,000 in assets, there is no parental contribution.

And what do you mean by student services?

Edited to add: I went and checked your old posts. Looks like there is a divorced father involved – and that your daughter’s financial aid package was like this at ALL the schools to which she applied, NOT just Brown. So your negative comments about Brown really need to be looked at from that perspective.
