Hi, if anyone well acquainted with UW’s computer science department could answer this question, I would appreciate it. I was not directly admitted to the computer engineering major, and I’m not sure if I’m willing to take the risk of having to change career plans (I’ve been programming for a few years now, and I’m very set on the major). I know that the major’s admit rate is roughly 30%, but what is the applicant pool like? Is it a crapshoot, or is there a level of performance that more-or-less guarantees acceptance?
I am also wondering this? If they don’t accept what do you do? Change major?
Yeah. You have to start working towards another major, although you can keep applying for computer science. I think their website has a list of computer science courses you can take without having been accepted to the major, but I don’t believe it’s very many.
How can I know whether or not I am a DA student?
If your major is listed as computer science on either your unofficial transcript, or on the packet you received/will receive in the mail after your general acceptance, then you are a direct admit. They’ll notify direct admits officially by email later on, and there’s a small chance that you’ll get direct admission even if you’re currently listed as pre-eng/sci right now. Emphasis on small, though.
