<p>theone - our school has acadeca too & we won nationals before, but.. our school is anything but competitive, haha. :( it's pretty sad.</p>
<p>I always heard that competitve meant a school you have to apply to in order to attend. In other words magnet schools and private schools. </p>
<p>If you live in Middlesex you're screwed because we only have one magnet and it sucks.</p>

<p>Competetive can mean a lot of things. For it to actually matter in any way, it probably means a) Your school requires testing to get in to b) your school is ranked very high nationally. Examples of truly competitive HS's would be New Trier in Illinois and Scarsdale HS in New York, along with the the magnet schools of NYC (Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech). If your school just seems competitive internally, it may be, but that doesn't matter much. </p>
<p>And has been pointed out, if it truly is hyper competitive, the school probably doesn't offer specific rank.</p>
