<p>First year biochem here, I don’t find the 20/30 series for chem difficult in comparison to the 14 series, it’s just taught differently…The fact that I compete with engineers in my 20 series classes could be why.</p>

<p>It’s depressing for us biochems because so many people switch out of it, mostly to phy sci or psychobio. But you have to keep in mind that the more people competing with you, the harsher the curve. Just because the material is easy and there’s so many people means you can’t afford to screw up even the slightest bit.</p>

I consider Bio majors the most northern of the south campus majors… They’re not difficult, just lots of memorization… Sort of like history… Physics and Math on the other hand I consider difficult because you can’t just memorize a course reader/textbook and expect to get an A. You need to be able to use basic information you learned to synthesize complex ideas for the tests. BTW, I consider biochemistry chemistry… This reminds me of <a href=“http://xkcd.com/435/[/url]”>http://xkcd.com/435/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>Can someone please explain the difference between the aforementioned majors? I understand what kind of classes you need to take from looking at the General Catalog, but that doesn’t help me understand what you’re actually learning.</p>

<p>I don’t understand why phys bio is considered the “premed” major. I mean, first year of med school you’re going to have to take micro, immunology, biochem, genetics, etc. Might as well prepare yourself right now and get the run-around on those subjects. Of course, you’ll also have to take anatomy, physiology, and pathology, but I would consider these courses relatively easier than those previously mentioned.</p>
