Hi, I was just writing my why Penn essay and thought that it would be great help for everyone applying to Penn, if we bring our research together and compile a list of Penn's various programs.

ex.)
Penn's CURF
Penn SID
ABCS

etc.

a short description of each program would be awesome too.
Good luck everyone on your Why Penn essays!

ABCS
Academically Based Community Service (ABCS) is at the core of the Netter Center’s work. ABCS students and faculty work with West Philadelphia public schools, local communities of faith and community organizations to solve critical campus and community issues in a variety of areas related to the environment, health, arts and education.

Penn’s CURF
For nearly 10 years, Penn’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF) has helped students use what they learn in the classroom to launch successful research projects of their own.

At CURF, advisors assist students to apply for competitive national and international graduate fellowships and scholarships such as the Thouron Award and Marshall Scholarship. The Center is also the home of the Benjamin Franklin Scholars Program and the University Scholars Program.

In January, CURF announced that seven Penn students were chosen as 2011 Fulbright Award winners. Rachel Romeo, a 2011 graduate was among them. With a BA in Psychology & Linguistics, Romeo (also a Thouron Award winner) plans to attend University College London to continue her exploration of children’s language acquisition. While at Penn she conducted significant psychological and linguistic research.

PennSID
Penn Society for International Development (PennSID) is dedicated to bringing a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective to the many issues surrounding international development.

Our primary goal is to raise awareness and knowledge of international development issues on Penn’s campus by hosting relevant events, leveraging the resources of various departments, and exposing the student body to a range of extracurricular and professional opportunities.

In the spirit of the university’s interdisciplinary collaboration, PennSID welcomes students from all of Penn’s schools, and regularly works with other organizations on campus to achieve our goals. In the past, PennSID has held fundraisers, roundtable discussions, and service events with a number of other student groups at Penn.
