Complaint about the CMU admissions service.

Well. Hey I got something interesting in the mail on Wednesday May 4th. My financial aid package. Well I had misplaced my CMU admission ID number (as did hundreds of other students... which in my opinion, is a stupid method for students to access their admissions info since they would not give the ID number by email or by phone).

In the first week of April I faxed the admissions office asking for my ID number... it never came back by fax or by email. All I wanted to do was look at my financial aid package to consider the university! Now, May 4th I finally receive my financial aid package by mail, postmarked April 26th. Well... ain't that just a tad bit late? I was pretty sure that confirmation of May 1st was the deposit deadline.

Well, I just thought I'd just state this to the CMU admissions office just so they could fix these problems. CMU didn't give me enough financial aid anyway even with my Judith Resnick Scholarship of 16,000 dollars (at least compared with Tufts and Cornell).

Yikes! I hope you didn't send in your deposit assuming you would get enough financial aid! It took a couple of weeks for all of the decisons to be mailed also. Very slow. Where did you decide to attend?

Also, what do they do with all of the scholarship/aid money that is not used? Although my son got some, it was not enough either. (I guess he wanted CMU more than CMU wanted him! Oh well, their loss!) Where does this money go? I bet alot goes unused when students decide to attend elsewhere. Do they offer it to other students, or does it just go back into the school?

Yeah this happened to me too. I wasn't even sure where the Admissions ID number came from in the first place, and after a bunch of e-mails (which took weeks for any response) and some phone calls, we had to go though the whole Faxing service. Thankfully we got the fax very quickly!

But I think that CMU does have a problem with timing and they do need to work them out.

Well, at least you learn that you'd better keep your important documents.

The Admission ID is given first in the "application received" packet and second in the welcome packet.

I dont think I ever got the application received document nor did I get my admission ID number in my welcome packet. I got the welcome packet, and I looked through it thoroughly for my admission ID number... not there.

It is written as BIO ID at the bottom of one of the welcome letters in that packet.
