Thanks, it was useful.

dang…ISU is coming up! smile : )

… AND since we are talking about undergrad, there are several undergrad-only schools that aren’t on this list that should be in the top 10 in nearly every category.

I’m not exactly sure what use a “undergrad ranking at institutions granting PhD” is, since PhD programs have nothing to do with undergraduate education! I find the USNWR categorization silly. How about “best undergraduate engineering programs” where we put schools like Harvey Mudd and Olin against MIT and Stanford?!

I agree, I would be interested to see where engineering deans across the country place a school like Olin or Rose-Hulman or Rowan or Kettering in a ranking of all schools.

can someone post the graduate school rankings?

the complete rankings are online…

Was there a ranking for Petroleum Engineering?

No, US News didn’t rank petroleum engineering schools

Can someone help with posting undergraduate without PHDs

i’m broke. :(

I’m going to say this like I say every year…

I’m an HMC alum and I think that this ranking is stupid, even if we are #1 on it. It means nothing. I want to see a comparison of undergraduate engineering programs across all colleges/universities. Until then, no, I don’t think much of the schools of this list.

rocketDA, that is so hard to do though. The research expenditures are so much different and the philosophies are so different that there really is no objective way to compare them (assuming you consider USNWR to be objective in the first place, which I do not). It would be a very interesting comparison for sure, but I don’t really see how anyone could do it without some massive study about engineering education so as to determine how to weight all the different parameters correctly. It would be hard to compare the advantage that a student gets at Michigan or UIUC (for example) by working with some world renowned professor to the advantage of the close personal attention that is common at Harvy Mudd or Rose-Hulman. It would be neat to see though.

HMC is also rated in the top 10 in a number of engineering specialties in the USNWR survey. This, despite the fact that HMC offers none of the majors cited. HMC offers exactly one engineering degree, and that is General Engineering for which it has an excellent reputation.

But Wow! Imagine being singled out as being among the best at what you do, and you don’t even do it. Impressive? Obviously this USNWR survey is crap.

This glaring inattention to detail renders all of the other USNWR’s ratings/surveys highly suspect, if not outright dismissible.

This could have saved me $20 subscription if I looked here first…

The new rankings will be released in 22 days.

Texas A&M baby!!!

If the school you go for engineering is not listed here, does that mean it sucks? And graduating with a degree from such a place would hurt your job opportunities compared to ones on that list?

Well of course it does. What else could it mean?

Was the sound of my eyes rolling audible? Of course it doesn’t mean that. Just because your school isn’t top N doesn’t mean it is terrible. It may have fallen through the cracks, it may be a new program, it may be underrated, or it may be terrible. Take your pick.
