Completely clueless but look at the stats!

Hi!

I'm basically aiming for a great electrical engineering school right now. I currently live in Illinois so UIUC is definately a top choice. However, I have no idea what my chances are there.

ACT Composite: 30
ACT Reading: 32
ACT Math: 32
ACT English: 34
SAT I (taken only once without practice mind you :P): 1330
GPA: 3.8 (WEIGHTED)
Classes taking now:
AP Statistics
AP Calculus BC
Symphony Orchestra
AP Government / AP Economics
AP Literature and Comp
Psychology / Honors Physics
AP Spanish
Activities:
- Volunteering: Animal Shelter
- Work: Waitress / Cashier at same place for 4 years
- Music: Piano and Viola
- Sports: Basketball and Badminton
- Others.. but you get the gist

Okay that's about it. Sorry for the life story but I'm really really a wreck over this..

I've already applied to the following schools:
Purdue University - EE - accepted
Illinois Institute of Technology - EE - accepted
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign - Business - waiting

Because I applied for business for UIUC fearing my chances, was that smart? Could I switch to EE easily or is it a struggle?

Are there and other schools I should be looking at? If so, please give suggestions if you think I even stand a chance! Thanks!

BUMP!

Oh please respond, I really need a reply to the UIUC question. IF I consider accounting to be a mistake, will I be able to switch to eletrical engineering?

Yes or no? AND how hard would it be??

Yes, you can change majors, but it may not be easy.

Also look at:
UWisconsin-Madison
Union College
Lafayette College
Lehigh U
Case Western
URochester
Tulane U.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmm I've never really heard of the schools you've mentioned but I'll look some of them up. What would be some good "reach" schools for me?

I'm planning to stay in te Illinois area

Meng, did you get any scholarship offers at IIT?

There's something about having to do an interview for it or something, I'm still contemplating whether or not to do it because it's a 3-day visit to the campus + a 30-40 minute interview.

Yikes :)

BUMP? What are my chances at engineering for UIUC?

You should call U of I admissions and ask them about transferring your application to the school of Engineering. Someone may be able to help you. At the very least, you'll get an introduction to their famous bureaucracy.

You look like a solid candidate, but be warned: Engineering at U of I, like Purdue, is designed to flunk out the less-talented.

with an ACT of 30, I'd give a shot at Northwestern, but it will be difficult.

I would try NW but their engineering program isn't as strong as Purdue or UIUC and is very very very expensive.

Still its like #4 in the nation ;) I may consider it. I've already filled out everything on that application except the essays

Yeah NW is one of the best in the country.

It is the ivy of the midwest :)

I visited their campus, it's very beautiful and right by the lake too.

I'm completely willing to take the challenge since I've waited to do what I've always wanted to do for my entire life :p

:), but keep in mind 30 is pretty muich the minimum to apply. Usually a 32+ will get accepted.

[nod] I was really bad, my Math, Reading, and English scores are all above 30. It's just my freaking Science score dragged my composite down, which is hilarious because that is supposed to be the easest section ^^;

I have no idea why it's my worst but probably because it's the very last section.

I was wondering why you overall composite was only 30 :P. I'd think it would of been like 32 if you took out the science part :)

Yeah I know, I was pretty mad at myself but it's okay since I get to send individual scores too.

I emailed UIUC hoping to switch my application over to engineering but I think it's too late -.-; Their "early action" is Nov 1. and I doubt they'll be there during the weekend. Oh well, I think I'm stuck with business for now..

Something just occured to me: I have 2 Cs How will that effect UIUC?

... I sort of had a mishap during my sophmore year, personal but something to do with .. parents.

:/ just wondering.

Also forgot to mention, I have 2 AP credits as of now:
AP US History: 5
AP Physics B: 4
The rest will be done this year. Fun stuff.

BTW, UIUC switched me to Computer Engineering and now the decision is pending. Great. What are my chances exactly? [chews fingernails]
