I'm EAing Chicago and neither I nor my parents know what to do with the tax forms. I've heard they prefer a hard copy so we planned on mailing them in, but they're supposed to be signed and my dad doesn't know where to sign them, nor do we know how they know that these tax forms are for me. Could someone please clue in a clueless girl?

Look at the bottom of the last page of the regular return that you print out. There is a place that says “SIGNATURE”. Your parents sign there. The date they should put is when they FILED their return (I’m assuming they did this electronically…so the date of submission).

One college gave us this advice, and we used it for all the tax form submissions: At the top of the front page, clearly print the student’s full name and date of birth. Then yellow-highlight it.

Being old-school, I also enclosed a cover letter just stating “Enclosed please find our 2008 Form 1040. This is for the file of applicant Suzy Jane Doe, DOB 9/1/91.”
