Completely Torn... Georgia Tech (OOS) or USC (Southern California) for Engineering?

I received the presidential scholarship from USC, so after personal expenses, living costs, etc, the two will cost roughly the same. Just visited GT campus and was impressed; going to visit USC this coming week. What are the pros and cons of each? I've reached an impasse.

wow, this is a toughie…two great schools…but really different from each other…which one puts you closer to home? Travel costs might be something to consider. (or does USC mean “south carolina” and not “southern california.” As far as school vs. school, I have the impression that GA Tech is on a trajectory right now…with its influence being felt…so you would be riding that rocket. But USC is swell too.

USC refers to Southern California as indicated by the title

Isn’t USC a much better school than GTech anyway? Usually when something like this comes up it’s you got a scholarship to GTech but you like USC better… but in your case you got a scholarship to USC. I would take USC anyday

One thing to consider is if you are counting on the scholarship to stay at USC, what GPA do you need to maintain that scholarship? How about at GT?

GT didn’t offer me a scholarship but its OOS tuition is significantly lower than a private school’s. And I don’t think a minimum GPA is required for the USC scholarship; it is a National Merit Presidential Scholarship. Almost everyone I’ve talked to has said that GT’s engineering school is more renowned than USC’s, but then again, I live in Florida

For overall undergraduate experience, I would pick USC. There is a minimum GPA for NMF , it’s 2.0 now but it’s used to be 3.0. I guess a few of D1’s friends lost their trustee scholarships that may be why they are changing it .
Georgia Tech is probably harder, USC has decent engineering school.

My son got into Viterbi and ga tech. Which has better connections jibs etc

Jobs.

Each likely has a recruiting advantage in its local and regional area. Both are respectable schools for engineering majors.

Update: I chose USC. Go trojans!

Congratulations! Great choice!

Both good schools for Engg. My bro studied Architecture at USC in the 1990’s. My D2 will be attending GTech starting this Fall to study ChemE. She chose GTech over UCB and UMich…no scholarships from any of these. We are from PA.

It is a tough call for you I guess. Let me know if you need any info why we decided on GTech over the other two.

Good luck !
