Completing IGETC before transfer to CSU.

Is it that necessary to complete an IGETC before transferring to a CSU? I have 99 credits and a 3.4 GPA and applied to CSU San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Long Beach. I've nearly completed my IGETC but I am only missing the oral communication part and the political science/American Government part. Everything else is complete. Is there a possibility I can still get into one of these CSU's?

What is your intended major?
Some majors - mainly the sciences and engineering - do not require IGETSE completion because the major requirements would put you well over the 60 semester unit baseline and would take almost three years to complete both.

Check with each school, but I would think that with that many credits completed (I’m assuming that they are quarter units) they might admit you under the proviso that you complete the requirements prior to graduation.

It is not necessary to complete IGETC before transferring to a CSU however it IS NECESSARY to complete the “Golden Four” by the time of transfer. You need to make sure you have all four done, for example, your Communication class.

The CSUs are not offering admissions to transfer students who have not completed the Golden Four or have it planned/in progress before transfer.

what is the “golden four”?

The golden four are four requirements CSU transfer students must meet (supposedly) to be eligible to transfer.

Oral Communication

Written Communication

Critical Thinking

Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning

You community college or other school you are transferring from should be able to show you which classes meet those four requirements. I, however, have only completed 3 our of 4 of those requirements (I never took an oral communication or speech class to fulfill requirement #1) and I still got into SFSU yesterday. I have no idea how my best bet would be because of my GPA.

BusyBeeh – do get clarification on missing one of the golden four – there are many many students who have gotten their admission rescinded after getting an “acceptance” once the college caught up with paperwork. This usually happens when you send in your actual transcripts and a human goes through the paperwork and notes that a piece is wrong or missing in your application/transcript and you no longer qualify.

I can’t say you will be rescinded… only that I personally know people who have been rescinded from CSUs for these kinds of things–even late in the process. (Get your missing class in asap!)

I’ve seen people have their acceptance rescinded for not taking the speech/communications class part of the igetc for CSUs.
