Completion of IGETC before Transfer!?

Hello,

I am applying to transfer as a Biology B.S. major to all the UC’s I have completed all prereqs for the major, however I am missing one class from Area 4 of the IGETC sheet. I could potentially take this class during the spring semester, but I would greatly prefer not to as I am already taking a very busy schedule. I was told by my counselors that I could recieve a partial IGETC certification, and complete the class during summer. For the UC app should I say that I will have the full certified for completion IGETC? Or should I say no? Also will not fully completing my IGETC by spring not allow me for admission to UC’s? I have been hearing many different answers to this question. Some people have told me that I would not be allowed to take the course over the summer to complete my IGETC. Can anyone give me insight into this situation?

I’ve talked to my councillors about this and they told me it’s totally not a problem if you don’t complete IGETC, as long as it is not more than 2 IGETC requirements (unless you are applying to Berkeley, then you have to complete it). They told me if I didn’t finish it in CC then I would just have to finish it in UC.

If you are getting a partial IGETC certification, then my advice is not to say that you will have a fully certified IGETC by the end of spring.

About completing IGETC in summer. I have heard that you can take it over the summer but it will not help you will the admission process at all. Meaning if the UC have certain pre-reqs that you need to finish before transfer the last semester for you to complete it is by spring.

However, I have had councillors (and UC councillors) telling me incorrect information, so definitely just call the school and ask just to be sure! Hope this helps!
