At the time of application, I did not have all my pre-reqs done. I am finishing the last of all pre-reqs for my major this semester. If I applied to a non-impacted major (with high acceptance rate), will UCLA care more about the fact that I'll have everything done (including IGETC) than the amount of pre-reqs I had at the time I applied?

I ask this because I heard UCLA only evaluates individual course work for Biz Econ, Econ, Psychology, and I forgot what else.

yeah i think you’re okay kiddo. as long as you have it done before transfer, no sweat.

as long as they are done by the end of this spring you’re fine.

So in other words, since UCLA only looks at overall UC-GPA for the non-impacted major I applied to, the number of courses I had at the time of applying does not make me any more or less competitive, but the fact that I’m going to have everything done by Spring does, correct?

yes, everything done by spring is a great thing, what’s your major and GPA?

Math/Econ 3.5. I have IGETC done, I think I wrote a really great essay (I wrote one that got me admitted early to UCSB in high school), plus I’m a URM.

k well you’re right in the middle, the average gpa for Math Econ last year ws 3.57, avg. admited is 3.49 so you will be somewhat competitive with your GPA, IGETC and pre-reqs done. GPA averages are gonna be way higher this year though so we’ll have to see, it’s going to be a tough year for us applicants.

The people saying it doesn’t matter if your pre-reqs were completed at time of application are correct.

Sweetnezz, where are you getting that GPA averages will be up this year? The numbers for Berkeley freshmen were just released and they are virtually unchanged from last year. That includes % admitted.

it’s obvious by the trends in GPA’s that have been accepted from 2006 to 2007 to 2008 now it will be 2009.

For example, the average GPA for accepted Sociology transfers at UCLA:

2006: 3.49 2007: 3.51 2008: 3.62

If that trend proves to be correct, it will be very high averages for every major this year. The transfer pool for 2009 is larger than any other year by far.

I hope your wrong sweetnezz I am getting very very scared about all this. It’s unfair and GPA’S should stay the same

For some majors, the average acceptance GPA tends to fluctuate from year to year actually.

Statistics: 3.60 2005: 3.80 2006: 3.46 2007 :3.46 2008

I think GPA averages for accepted students will increase for the more popular majors such as the ones that get more than a hundred applicants.

yeah, i was mostly referring to impacted majors such as mine, Sociology.

sweetnezz, but I hope you get in and that they wont go too hard you know. Your GPA 3.79 is pretty good. I am having the same worries since my major for some reason is impacted which is global studies. Like on 2007 the admit rate was 3.43 and last year it was 3.72 I don’t seem to understand why this major has gotten so difficult. anyways, I wanted to ask you question. you know for the prereqs when on assist.org it says that in 2009 it is RECOMMENDED to take them and I still do, and that in 2010 transfer it is REQUIRED, what is the difference? and do you think that this could be an easier year and they won’t be too mad at people for not finishing the prereqs since it’s recommended? My major actually has this dilemma but I am finishing all the prereqs this semester and even doing 1 more. any opinions, thoughts?

thanks for the encouragement, i’m not sure i don’t have any recommended only required, sorry.
