complex question

Hello;

I have a financial aid question. I am currently a community college student nearing graduation (I am relying on financial aid and VA benefits). However, I only need a lab science sequence to graduate (4 credits per term), I will be full-time to stay in the dorms and because I am on the staff of the school literary publication. So I will be taking 12 or 13 credits per term, but the Va and apparently aid will only pay for 4 credits. I will get tuition waivers until I graduate, so all i need to worry about is housing, books and fees.

I plan to transfer to UMT, and I was advised to ask if there are classes I can take which will transfer, thus qualifying me for more aid.

Should I apply to UMT first? Any insight? Also, I asked about loans. They said I can't get them... but what about work-study?

Do you mean that “they” said you couldn’t get loans at the CC you are at currently? If that’s the case, I assume they meant you couldn’t get the Staffords or other federal loans because your VA benefits already covered all costs.

Yes, they said I can’t get loans because I will only be taking 4 credits that count toward graduation… I need 6. I know VA does not disqualify me for aid though… I’m not too interested in loans though. They said I need to make a petition showing that some of my other credits will count. All I need to graduate is Geology 201, 202, 203 … offered fall, winter and spring. 4 credits each

I suppose I will still get Pell grant money, but not so much. My idea is to enroll in the chemistry sequence, not geology… because each term is 5 credits… also I can look at scholarships. The Va will also pay a reduced amount, plus my va is almost used up.
