Complicated Application Question-- Help!

I’m applying for Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and I’m not sure how to go about answering their short answer prompt.
“Lewis & Clark College is a private college with a public conscience and a global reach. We celebrate our strengths in collaborative scholarship, international engagement, environmental understanding and entrepreneurial thinking. As we evaluate applications, we look for students who understand what we offer and are eager to contribute to our community. In one paragraph, please tell us why you are interested in attending Lewis & Clark and how you will impact our campus.”

I never know what to say for those “your impact on the campus” prompts, and the school is my safety, so it’s harder for me to say something that sounds genuine. Also, it’s only a paragraph long, so I don’t know how much or how little information to give.

I hope you have another safety because IMO L&C isn’t one for you. First your GPA is low (bottom 10%ile) and there is the issue of paying for the school with your family’s income.

@“Erin’s Dad” I know my grades aren’t the best, but I have solid ECs and got a 31 on the ACT… might that help my application ?

ECs never compensate for grades in the bottom 10th percentile. And if you can’t afford it, it’s not a safety not matter what your test score and grades are.

Rather than worrying about how to answer the essay question, you should be looking for a real safety if you don’t have one.
