composite????? with writing?

so if your writing brought your english down 2 points, will they calculate a new composite using that figure instead of english???

your essay doesn't affect your composite score. the new english/writing score out of 36 is pretty much worthless. the 2-12 number is all that matters, I don't know why they make the new score.

How much do colleges care about the writing score? I did very well on the English and reading sections, but only got a 9 on the essay. Will this really hurt me that much?

it probably depends on the college, just like some schools care about/completely ignore the SAT writing.

anyway, 9 is not a bad score at all, so I couldn't see it hurting you.

thats what i got too, in september i got a 10 :(

So, is 9 going to be a problem for schools like middlebury, carleton, cornell, etc.? This is assuming strong English, reading scores and excellent application essays. Thanks for your input!

hey im applying to cornell too. Carleton? u from MN? Jw.

Ya i got a 34 english with a 8 essay...

that's not fair. my 10 essay brought me down to a 34 too:(

^Essay does not affect composite. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The writing score and English/writing score are completely separate from your English score and composite. So your writing score can't "bring down" your English score.

Think about it: Your multiple choice scores have to be comparable to those of people who didn't take the essay part.

I thought he meant his "new" combined english score was 34 with an 8 essay.
