Next year, I have the option of taking one of these classes? Which one is easier? I will have many other APs so I want to take the one with a lesser load of work. Suggestions? Also can anyone tell me the differences between these two classes?

Depends on what you mean by easier. I don’t really know about the courseload or difference between these classes, but AP Language Composition seems easier than Literature since, according to the Annual AP Report, only 6.5% of test takers got a 5 on the Lit AP Test while 8.1% got a 5 on the Language Comp AP Test.

ap comp is definitely easier. at my school, its the junior ap english. ap lit is for seniors only. the essays for comp are a lot more straightforward and the lit one has essays on poetry and prose and another is a synthesis essay on actual pieces of literature that arent given, collegeboard expects you to read most of them during that year in class.

I only took AP Lit, but I didn’t find it difficult at all. Sure, you have to remember enough details from the books you read to write an essay on one of them, but I used Gone with the Wind last year, a book my class didn’t read, and I made a 4. As long as you’re using a classic novel (ask your English teacher for ideas on this), you’ll be fine.

However, by the same token, if you’re better at writing argumentative essays than literary analysis essays, then AP Lang is probably better for you.

Composition is much, MUCH easier. I didn’t study one bit and got a 3. AP Lit, which i’m taking this year, involves a LOT of reading. My advice would be to take comp, but if you’re dead set on Lit, take 2 or 3 books and read them over and over for the exam. I feel the multiple choice is much easier than the essays. To do well you need some concrete knowledge about a book and have to regurgitate it at will.

And I also agree with clarinette52, take language if you aren’t good at analyzing books.
