computational mathematics or statistics?

i currently attend ucr and they offer a B.S. in computational mathematics and the upper division classes look very interesting. does anyone know what sort of high paying jobs are available for computational mathematics majors. i wanted to do statistics, but it doesnt seem exciting.

This can be an extremely interesting field, with interesting applications. I understand that Bioinformatics is a hot area now. As an example of where you could end up working with this type of background, look at this webpage: http://www.mdanderson.org/departments/biostats/

(My son interned there last summer.)

blackeyedsusan, what did your son major in?

He's actually still in high school -- so it was a really great opportunity that has sparked his interest in this field. There were people in the department that majored in statistics, computer science, biostatistics and applied math.

You could be an actuary or work as a quant on wall street. Both make tons of money. Actuaries have to pass very difficult actuarial exams, however. Quant jobs are also very competitive and many require advanced degrees - PhD in physics math or stat...MS in Mathematical Finance...Both can pay $150,000+
