I thought I heard that UVA offered some students assistance in purchasing a computer. Is this true? If so, has anyone heard yet if they will be offered this aid? When did you find out and was it outside the original FA package?

Thanks

Hello,

UVa does offer laptops to students who demonstrate financial need. They’ll give the students who qualify a macbook or a pc. There is, however, an application form that you’ll have to complete stating why you are eligible for a laptop. From my understanding the laptop isn’t necessarily yours but you keep it until graduation as if it were yours (I think they let you take it with you if you stay for four years. If you transfer out, you have to give it back to them).

If you qualified for one, you should have received an email stating this and the email would should have an attachment of the application.

The application is due on May 20th, I believe. And they’ll mail out letters telling the students if they won the laptop around July 1st. However, the actual laptops will not be ready until the beginning of the school year.

If you haven’t heard from them yet, they must have determined that you did not demonstrate enough need for it. If you disagree, maybe you could contact the Office of F-Aid and have them at least look at your circumstances.

Thanks Coolpg. I will look into it. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!
