Hello,

I'll be attending college in the fall and I'm planning on majoring in computer science. As you can see a computer will be a important choice for me. I'm very interested in the "all in one" (AIO) computers because I'm looking for a desk top and those take up minimal space. then i will probably pick up a netbook to carry with me. Anyway, what I'm asking for help with is can anyone recommend a good AIO for my needs in computer Science. I know the Mac one is supposed to be great but I've heard Mac is generally better for Graphic arts and web design. So if anyone could give me recommendations or input it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What’s your budget? If you’re budget is like $1200 getting an iMac will be fine if you don’t mind because Macs have Boot Camp. The base iMac models have quad-core CPUs so they’ll be powerful. Otherwise I think you should just go for a desktop or laptop with 1920x1080 resolution. All-in-Ones can’t be upgraded easily so they get outdated in a year or two. Same reasoning for netbooks, they are really weak and I would suggest you not to buy them as well. I really don’t think anyone will need to bring a laptop to class everyday in college.

I guess a budget would have been a good idea. I would be looking for something around 1000$. I have pretty much ruled out macs because of there price and everything I have / will be using runs on Windows OS. I am definitely looking for a desktop because I want something that will be powerful and durable for the large amount of time ill most likely be spending on it (Not that some laptops are very powerful). I’m just looking for a good set up for my dorm room. Also I realize how small and week netbooks are, but I just need something that is portable purely for net surfing and note taking reasons, which is why I don’t believe its a horrible investment.

hopefully now my needs are slightly clearer.

Thanks

If your CS program is worth its salt, you’ll be doing your stuff in a UNIX-like environment. In that case, a Mac is a much better choice: OS X is a UNIX-like system, but not Windows. Also, almost no netbooks and very few laptops come at similar build quality (namely, Dell Latitude E-series, Lenovo Thinkpad T-series, and HP EliteBook).

Yes, but they are great at all other functions, too, especially since they can run Windows.
