computer engineering and computer architecture

<p>Hi, everybody... What is the difference between computer engineering and computer architecture ?</p>

<p>Computer engineering is typically delivered as a combination of software engineering (that is, the construction of programs that make the computer do something useful), mechanical engineering (for moving bits and pieces), and mostly electrical engineering. Some programs will put an emphasis on manufacturing process while others put it on systems integration, while others put it on computer architecture.</p>

<p>Computer architecture is the well-planned arrangement of computing components to achieve a desired goal within a set of constraints. It can be at a micro-level such as the arrangement of circuits and cache and ALU and PLU on a microprocessor, or it can be at a macro-level such as the power management, cabling, storage management, and interconnectivity of servers in a cluster or grid type supercomputer.</p>

<p>A building architect creates the plans for a building, making sure that the layout, features, and systems of a buliding optimize the building’s intended use, whether that’s as a warehouse or an airplane hangar or a church sanctuary. A building engineer figures out how to implement and subsequenly informs the plans of an architect. Replace “building” with “computer” and it holds pretty much true.</p>
