oh okay, so you mean to say that Cal Poly SLO is well known in California so i might be relatively easy to get a job in California, whereas in other states i might face difficulties?

one more thing , is Pomona better or SLO? and like i have been told earlier SJSU is better than both. What about SDSU and SFSU ??

Yes i would like to go to grad school…

Cal Poly SLO is considered the top CSU, and its engineering program is among the best in the country when compared to colleges that don’t confer doctoral degrees. Most graduates end up working in California although recruiters come to the quarterly job fairs from all over the country.

CP Pomona and SJSU are very good, as is SDSU. SFSU isn’t particularly known for engineering.

thanks a lot Vballmom,
After looking at the rankings, Location and other factors, these are the colleges i finally plan to apply to, in the order of my preferences.
1st San Jose State University
2nd Purdue University
3rd University of California, San Diego
4th California State Polytechnic University,San Luis Obispo
5th University of California, Santa Barbara
6th University of Illinios
7th California State Polytechnic University,Pomona

Does it seem Good?

I think you need a safety school on your list. All of the UCs and CSUs will be reaches for you.

Will you be able to visit any of these schools before you apply?

Cal poly san luis obispo is increasingly competitive to get into for engineering. The mean/median SAT score was 1388 (math and reading only) for engineering freshman this year (although I’m sure that most engineering students have higher math scores than reading scores, so that means that probably the mean/median math is at least around 700+).

What is your CR score?

I agree that you should make sure that you include some safeties in your list.

[Student Profile - Admissions - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions)

Your order of preference should be

1) Berkeley
2) LA/SD
3) Davis/SB/Cal Poly SLO
4) anything else

If he received a 32/42 in his IB program, does this translate to a 3.0 GPA? If this is the case, the OP does not currently have the stats to be a likely candidate for admission to any of these schools. He needs to have some realistic choices in his list.

Sorry, you’re right but I mean he should be aiming for the top UCs in terms of preference, even if he doesn’t get in. For ex. he had UCSD #3. It’s just as difficult to get into as UCLA(for cs or engineering).

I don’t think a 32/42 IB score translates to a 3.0 UW GPA. IB scores are based on tests in 6 subjects worth 7 points each. The curve for the tests is much closer to a bell curve than most high school grades or AP tests (I’ve heard anywhere between 1-10% may get a 7, depending on the test and the year). A 42/42 IB score would therefore be much rarer than a 4.0 UW GPA. I don’t think any U.S. Universities admit based on predicted IB scores like many international schools do, but I’m not sure how they would convert it if your school doesn’t provide a GPA.

FWIW, I’m an IB Diploma Candidate in the U.S. with a 4.0 UW GPA and will certainly not get a 42/42. In fact, I’d be perfectly happy with a 32/42 myself…

yea im appearing got SAT again, in october and im expecting a score of 1800+

Could you recommend me some safety universities?

Most of the universities give IB students a unconditional offer looking at their IB predicted score…
IB results come out in the month of August hence admissions are provided look at the predicted scores, yet some universities give a conditional offer stating a minimum score required to be achieved in the final examinations…
I have had MANY Friends got into purdue, USC, BU and many other universities with a predicted score…
