i'm an international student studying ECE at UIUC.. i'm planning to transfer to dartmouth next year.. does dartmouth have a computer engineering program?

if doesn't, what kind of engineering program does dartmouth have?

i've searched the homepage, it says that there's only one engineering major: engineering sciences. is this true? there isn't any major such as mechanical, chemical, electrical, etc?

thank you very much.

Hmm, If I’m correct on this, Dartmouth does indeed only have one engineering major. From there you can chose to get your BA in engineering (4 years) or a Bachelors of engineering (5 years). The specializations (computer, mechanical etc…) aren’t split into separate majors, but rather just concentrations, with every engineering student receiving the same degree.

Why you want to transfer from a superior engineering school puzzles me. Your reasons will not be compelling enough!

^^That’s not completely true.

First of all, there’s a BME Major now, so not all engineers receive the same degree (not that that’s relevant…) [Biomedical Engineering Sciences Major](http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/undergraduate/ab/biomed-major.html)

Also, modifying the major with COSC is an established path for people with interests in computer engineering.

[Modified Engineering Sciences Major](http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/undergraduate/ab/modified.html)
[Engineering Sciences Major Modified with Computer Science](http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/undergraduate/ab/modified-computer.html)

check it out.

also, you can complete a BE in 4 years, it’s more work for sure but it can be done. The COSC Department is pretty solid, too, though generally thought of more in a theoretical bent, but you might want to check them out too.

good luck!

umm… i’m also interested in business… can i do a dual degree in business or maybe just as a minor along with the engineering sciences?
thanks btw

Yes you could double major in econ and engineering… but man would that be one heck of a schedule…
btw thanks for the elaboration rnl.

how good are thayer school graduates?

do they get good paying jobs?
or do they gain admission to good graduate schools?

There’s no business major at Dartmouth.

Thayer students, however, often go on to careers in finance and business. In fact, if I remember correctly, that is the pluralistic path for Thayer grads.

Grads get pretty similar wages to basically every other engg school, but dartmouth grads in general get pretty good paying jobs. I wouldn’t use future job prospects as a reason to rule in favor or against Dartmouth.

basically, you should do some research on your own. poke around the thayer school site.

thanks a lot for the information

Due to the fact that thayer only offers a general engineering program, can thayer grads go straight to grad school to pursue specific engineering major, say chemical engineering or mechanical engineering?

yes of course, and many do.
