I'm completing my Sophomore year in computer engineering at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and I'd like to know where to apply for a summer internship OR co-op.
I have applied to quite a few places but I just want more ideas for places to intern. I live in Northern Illinois and I'm mainly looking for companies with plants or HQs there but I am also applying to jobs across the US.

I've already applied to these places:
Alcoa
Accenture
GE
Northrop Grumman
Microsoft
Google
AMD
Motorola
Cisco
Intel
IBM
Garmin
Gulfstream
Texas Instruments
Boeing
Coilcraft
Raytheon
Lockheed Martin
NASA
NetApp
General Dynamics
Xerox

Before anyone mentions it, NVIDIA's requirements are 3.5/4.0 GPA and I don't have that so that is already out.

Check the job sites, simplyhired.com, monster.com, etc for internships. Or you could go through the fortune 500/1000 list to find companies. Many of those would probably be relevant to your major. Personally I would look at smaller local companies in your area if your GPA is below a 3.5.

I’ve applied to many of those on your list and i’m in mechanical engineering. You have to realize that these companies are likely getting tens of thousands of intern applications and only have one or two positions to fill. It is insanely competitive. I applied to Lockheed Martin and received an auto ‘canned’ response telling me “do not expect a direct reply about your application because we receive over a -million- resume submissions a year.” A MILLION. No joke. And that email was probably created before the economy tanked. Their submissions have probably more than tripled since then.
