I'm currently attending RIT (Rochester Institute of Tech.) and I'm a Computer Engineering major. I've been thinking lately, and I've realized I've lived here in Rochester for well over a year and I know nothing about this place. School is fine, I found a major that is okay for me, but overall life lacking. I'm not too happy living in an empty apartment in the middle of farm land. So I'm thinking of transferring out to somewhere else that I can have some sort of life, maybe closer to home (originally from Hawai'i), or in some kind of city that is actually alive. Does anyone have any recommendations to which schools I should look at? I'd prefer some kind of school in California that has a good computer engineering program.

You mean you are looking for a surfing school ? Have you considered UC Santa Barbara ?

check out Boston University

Well ... it's not a California school, but Rice is very strong in computer engineering, and you have the amenities of a large city at your doorstep.

Actually, I'm not really looking for a surfing school. It's just that, flying back and forward all the time between new york and hawaii is starting to wear down on me. Also I have my godmother and other relatives live in California. Yeah... current boyfriend is also living there too... yeah... miss him much....

It would help if you could share your current GPA with us. The problem with California is that the top schools either admit very few transfer applicants (as in the case of Caltech, Harvey Mudd or Stanford) or predominently in-state transfer applicants (as in the case of the UCs and CSs).

If your heart is set on a UC, I suggest the following:

Move to CA, attend a good California Community College (like Santa Monica, Pasadena City, or DeAnza), then apply as a junior transfer.

Computer Engineering Schools in California:
Stanford/Cal
USC/UCSD/UCLA
Other UCs

USC is probably the easiest California school to transfer into from your situation.

I think other lower level UCs should be easier to transfer in than USC.
