Computer Engineering vs. Computer Science?

I was accepted to the College of Engineering at Villanova with an intent to major in CE. I wanted to know if anyone that has been in either of these two majors had any input on the main differences. I’ve hear from many schools that CE and CS overlap in many ways, CE being 60% hardware and 40% software while CS is 60% software and 40% hardware. I’m not entirely sure yet if I am all that interested in the hardware aspect, however I really want a minor in Entrepreneurship and only the College of Engineering offers that.

Hey there. I’m currently a junior CS major at nova. Let me start off by saying that I have not ever taken a CS class that deals with hardware, nor do I believe we offer any. If you want to get an idea of our curriculum, check out the department website. It’s mostly math/theory with programming and typical software engineering stuff.

As for the Engineering school, there is more of an overlap. CEs will take some programming classes (the basics really) and the rest on hardware. So I would say for them it’s probably about 80% hardware 20% software for the Comp Engineers
