Computer Engineering

i am accepted to many schools with computer engineering major.... and still waiting for some others.. but that is not related to my question.

my question is...

how much i should know about computer engineering before i go into undergrad computer engineering program? (oh.. i know that the more i know.. its better.. duhh lol)
is it ok if i dont know anything about computer engineering?

my friend and i are worrying about this, because my friend only knows basics of computer.. while i only know a little bit of programming and some useless knowledges about website/design.

thanks

Oh Do you mean that are you worrying that everyone is going to be really advanced with computer hardware like building their own computers and stuff and advanced programming while you are just interested in the career without having too much experience?

I don't think it will set you behind but knowing more might help you to connect ideas. It can also depend on the type of programs used too. My friend uses special programs and is really advanced at it but they aren't the ones the college curriculum uses so he is at the start with everyone else.

I really wouldn't know but the people who go into computer engineering seem to at least know the basics you listed above. The ones who haven't done much of anything, not even the stuff you typed, but just a basic interest in computers end up hating it. But I'm a ChemE and hate computers so I guess I wouldn't know for sure.

Computer Engineering is very similar to Electrical Engineering for the first two years, so knowing programming might help you out in the first CS class, but that's about it. Hardly anyone comes in with knowledge of physics, circuits, signal processing, logic design, etc, which are the important "weedout" classes.

o... thanks for such good responses :]
