I am in college now and I am already doing pre-reqs for Engineering. I do want to do Software though but I am seeing a lot of posts that says you need a Computer Science major to get into Software. I do know that it’s possible for Comp. Engr majors to program but probably wouldn’t be as involved in programming if you would a software engineer or a comp sci major.
I’m also seeing a lot of people saying that your degree doesn’t matter one bit as long as you have a great passion and interest for the job as well as being capable of the tasks you have to perform for that job position.
I’m into designing as well, whether it be on houses, buildings, web design, product design. Is there a branch of engineering that would accommodate that interest?
All engineering study is to prepare you to design something, but the different types of engineering are for designing different things (e.g. civil engineers design buildings and infrastructure, while computer engineers design computer hardware and software).
my son was computer eng major and minor in cs. he hated computer eng cause of the electronics. He graduated and went to work in cs. His friend got a degree in english with a minor in cs. He works as a programer. my neighbor was an accountant and works in cs. Do what you love to do.
Well, I’ve got a friend who’s a computer science major and doing pretty good at what he does now website development. So I think your last statement still depends, your course can and might actually lead you to what you really want and can pursue
