Computer Hardware Technology vs. Embedded Systems Technology ?

I heard ASU has a really good engineering program but I’m in CA, and out of state is expensive. I want to major in CS. The Western Undergraduate Exchange only offers the two majors mentioned in the title. Can someone differentiate them, compare them to Computer Science? What jobs will I be able to get? What is the better pay? Am I better off paying out of state tuition for a CS degree? Thanks!

If what you want from ASU is the good engineering program, why would you go there for a different major? What engineering program are you specifically interested in?

These are technology degrees. Neither is a substitute for a degree in computer science or engineering. CS is an applied math/science degree that is closely related to engineering. A CS degree involves higher level coursework in topics like math, data structures, algorithms, etc.

@philbegas when I said engineering program I also meant Computer Science. Sorry about that.

What is it that make’s ASU’s CS program so noteworthy? I can’t imagine that it’s better enough than Cal Poly or SJSU to justify the price.

Those majors are not CS they are technology degrees. Go to a school in CA with CS. A csu will be way better than a tech degree.

Do those majors actually still exist at ASU? Looking it up on Google is a little inconclusive. I wouldn’t risk it just for a college you “heard” had a good engineering program.
