Today I spilled some iced tea onto my laptop. I would say it was only an ounce and I believe all of it went onto the number pad on the right. I quickly got towels and blotted it up. I thought everything was fine. Ten minutes later my laptop completely froze, which has never happened before. I did a hard reboot and when windows loaded again, my LAN and WIFI had disappeared. I reinstalled the drivers and kept rebooting until finally my WIFI worked again. But, then it froze again completely. So I reformatted and reinstalled windows. Since I reformatted, it has frozen twice in a few hours and I can't get my LAN to work no matter how many times I reinstall the driver (but the LAN is no where near where the spill was). What is wrong and what should I do about it?

just take it to someone to clean it up. the ice tea probably soaked something inside...

I don't want to do that because that would void the warranty. Would it just go away on its own? I mean if it dries? I ran a hard drive check and everything seems fine with it.

the problem won't go away completely (speaking from experience). It might not be as severe as before but it'll be there for a looong time if you just don't fix it.

This is the reason I don't drink anything anywhere near my laptop. Because Apple might charge me $12049135892131792 to have it fixed.

i nearly spilled coke on my laptop while reading this thread lol.

ok, does anyone who know a lot about computers want to post? I got a blue screen last night and wrote it down. It's the .sys file for my wireless card. For some reason it seems the problem is with my LAN/WIFI, which makes no sense because my LAN is a foot away from where the spill was.

Honey atomicfusion (^_^)

Basically, the sys file describes all remote systems known to the UUCP package.

Now are any of your drivers for the internet and the like kinda old? .sys files are legacy DOS real-mode drivers and DOS is hecka old.

^^^^^ This is all I know and (of course) I might be really wrong.
Why do you not try to update your drivers? Back up everything, if you have not already, and update those suckers. Also, does your computer have a system restore feature? The system restore feature is neat-o and it might help you out.

Driver guide might help you

This right here is cool

Lastly, you can try to ask someone at your University about this. Sometimes the folks who work in the computer lab really like to help folks and share what all they know. A word of advice, however, pick a time when there are not a ton of folks in the computer lab.

Yeah I have updated the drivers for my wireless card and LAN. Ive tried many times. It doesnt make sense because two days ago my computer was completely fine and now it isnt, even after the reformat and reinstall of all my drivers and then updating all those drivers.

Im about to install Suse linux. Ive had it with windows. Think that will help the problem?

go with ubuntu linux. it's more user-friendly.

I tried Ubuntu but it doesn't support my graphics card (or lack thereof).

Suse isn't working with my LAN or Wifi. I Just don't get it. I'm back on windows xp pro right now, but it's unstable and I'm sure I'll get a blue screen or total crash any minute.

I think you destroyed fan and computer hangs when CPU overloads to prevent damage in CPU :) I suggest you try to get the warranty service.

you should have quickly flip your laptop over, and not walk out and get paper towels.
but, guess thats too late now
my cousin spilled water on her laptop, got towels instead of flipping it over, had the laptop working for 2 hours before the mobo fried on her.
was able to recover her hard drive, computer could be booted up and everything but the graphics were distorted.
basically if the motherboard is damaged, everything else might be wrong/not working, hence your wifi problems

how did the love truck make it into this thread?
it ran away from everyone's favorite thread!

yeah i was wondering that too.
