Ok I reinstalled windows XP on my computer however i can't play any music. I checked Direct X and it says that i need to install a sound card driver. I have sound cards because before the installation i could listen to music. My computer is a dell but i don't recall a CD just for sound card driver. What should i do? I know it seems really stupid.

call dell and use some of that award winning customer support.

If you know what company your sound card's from, try going to their website to see if you can download a driver.

try this.

as with all customer support, i'll give you some of the stupidest suggestons first:
1) check to see if your speaker is connected properly and turned on.
2) check the volume control in WinXP to ensure it is not muted.

now for the more useful suggestions:
1) connect the speakers to the onboard sound card. most newer motherboards have an audio card on it. look at the back of the computer casing. are there two sets of (green, red, blue/yellow) jacks? if there are, it means one is your sound card's and the other is the onboard one. plug it into your onboard one. see if there's sound.

2) if you only have one set, it means you have to get the drivers from the company's website (not necessarily dell, unless your speakers come from dell).

however as far as i know, you don't need drivers to listen to music in XP. drivers are for the enhancement functionalities of your sound card.

Being that you bought a deal, the soundcard is probably integrated into the mobo. You need to go to dell's website and search for drivers that match your mobo and/or computer model.
