Computer programming

I'm a Neuroscience major (mmhmm pre med)

THis is what the online UCLA career center says
"Math 3A, 3B, 3C or 31A, 31B, 32A
This is your preparation for calculus-based physics. Several schools require one year of college level math. For other schools, this requirement is strongly recommended, especially as preparation for physics. One year of math can include statistics (see below) and computer programming classes "

I really want to learn C++, I've tried to learn on my own but i'm not motivated enough. I taught myself PHP, MySQL, C#, among others but C++ is considerably more complicated.
So my question is how can I incorporate the three computer programming classes UCLA offers into my requirements...or at least make them count for something...? Does the above statement by the career center mean I can complete skip taking all math classes and just take computer programming classes and count them as math (not that i'd want to do that or anything...) ?

I’m not sure about the CS classes counting towards math credit, but if you’re really that interested in learning C++, I suggest taking a class or two at a junior college during the summer. C++ isn’t really a hard language to learn.

why dont you just buy a book or something?

The “___ for Dummies” series is pretty useful.

or take pic 10A, thats a pretty easy class especially compared to cs 31…

yeah, PIC 10A is the Letters and Science equivalent, it’s easier and you could possibly get a ‘specialization in computing’ - don’t think it’s offered for Neuroscience, but look into it.

Unfortunately PIC 10A is already full this quarter.

thanks for all the responses!

sid3000: I do have C++ books. But it’s a pretty complicated language (beyond the basics), a lot less standardized than the other languages that I’m used to. So I probably could teach myself but like I said I’m just not motivated enough, and a class would be very motivating and I could learn the material much more quickly. Thanks for your advice though.

I was definitely looking into taking PIC 10A through 10C.
Will taking PIC10A-C count for anything? Or is it just gonna pack up my schedule and do nothing more than be helpful to me personally?
