Computer Question!

I have fallen hopelessly in love with Macs.. however, my dad is trying to push me towards a CCI computer. I really, really do not like Thinkpads, so as a compromise, I suggested a Dell- for the same amount (or less) as a decent Macbook, I can get a really nice Dell with upgraded memory, etc. I know some people who get Macs at UNC have trouble with the network and stuff... would the problems be the same for a Dell? I was hoping not, since the default operating system would be Windows, as opposed to Mac. Any thoughts on what to do/what would be best?

I have a Dell and have been using it all year so far. I haven't had any problems. The only thing that worries me is lack of support if something does happen, but other than that I have no complaints.

The thinkpad is a pretty good deal...its a lil bit more than a mac, but think about if your comp screws up, its good to know you don't need to ship it off to somewhere to get it fixed.

I don't think getting a Dell makes that much sense.

The main advantage of CCI is the on-campus support if something goes wrong - even if it's your fault.

I totally understand your love of Macs and distaste for thinkpads, but honestly if getting a Mac is not an option then I'd go with a CCI. With Dell, you get the worst of both worlds - not-as-good support (because it's not through CCI) AND not-as-good computer (because it's not a Mac).

That said, I'm currently using a Mac on campus without any problems. All of the networks, and all of the printer drivers, etc. work with Mac OS X.

Yeah I use a mac too. I have to say, all of my friends with the CCI computers hate them. While it is certainly not indicative of everyone's experience, I just thought I'd share. Most people I know pine for a mac, but cannot afford one after just having bought the CCI computer. I know CCI seems like a good deal, but I would advise going for a Macbook.

Vista has way too many problems.

CCI's Thinkpad is a great computer, most people just don't know how to take care of their computer properly.

btw, thinkpad is the business-traveller's standard laptop because its so solidly built.
