Could any one comment on the Dell Latitude E6440 recommended by Villanova for engineering majors? Do most students go with the recommended computers (see College IT Computing Requirements in Villanova University Unit). I'm trying to figure out if I should buy one for my son for graduation. Thanks

So unfortunately for you, Villanova ended its laptop program. In other words, every year before your year, students were given a free laptop by the university. Normally, your year and the rising juniors would both get the DEell latritude E6440, but that is no longer the case and only the rising juniors will receive the school laptop. However, you should be fine with any laptop.

The Dell Latitude E6440 retails at around $1400 and honestly at that price point you would be better off getting a macbook for your son- if he is going to be an Engineer I assume he is savvy enough to set up virtual machine software so he can run all the necessary programs that may only be available for Windows.

Previously this “recommended” laptop was given to students free of charge.
