I need to get a computer soon as mine is on its last leg. I hear there are requirements and I found last years and it says that they really don’t recommend Macs for engineering. I assume they expect you to run programs. I have hated windows ever since 7 and really want a Mac for its good looks and integration with all my devices. (Plus I hate Microsoft) What do engineering students have to say about this? Do you ever actually run programs? Do they have any computer labs to run it on a desktop? Say I needed to use Bootcamp, would a Macbook Pro be powerful enough?
Thanks
I went on an engineering tour, and the tour guides actually suggested getting a mac.
From their experience, they tend to last longer and be less prone to software issues (like viruses). I have absolutely no idea why the department of engineering suggests getting the computers that they do. The tour guides all had macs and highly suggested getting one if you can afford it.
According to those students, the very first thing you do as a Clemson student is go and have every program you will need loaded on your computer. So even a mac will have all the programs you need.
It is also not necessary to buy the computer from Clemson. They literally suggest the most expensive mac they could find. But I do not think that a macbook air would be sufficient. I bought a macbook pro about a year ago and plan on continuing to use it in college. I would also not buy a 15’’ just because it is a lot heavier. I have a 13’’ and from what those tour guides were saying, a 13’’ macbook pro is ideal.
Hope it helped.
Wow girl, you have your stuff together. You’re everywhere haha. Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear, its expensive but that new 13 inch macbook pro looks real nice. I hate my computer rn (17 inch,8 lbd HP), and I hate any windows os other than Windows 7 pro. I saw they do a computer setup at orientation, so I think Ill just buy something and set it up then. Thanks!!! @thatpreppygirl
I spoke to the on-campus computer store last week. They said that they will be updating their engineering computer requirements mid-May, and for mechanical engineers, they will no longer be allowing Macs. They are adding a new software package that won’t run on a mac, or on a mac that runs windows.
